The Department of Anesthesia at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) seeks a basic neuroscientist with a focus on pain research or somatosensory processing for a tenure-track position at the level of assistant or associate professor. We are seeking candidates to establish a major research program examining the development of pain processing, pharmacology, pathophysiology or other aspect of somatosensation or pain and its treatment across the lifespan. Candidates with expertise in central pain/somatosensory circuits, itch processing, or visceral pain are especially encouraged to apply.  Ideally, the candidate will be using cutting-edge technologies that complement the strong basic neuroscience portfolio in Anesthesia and the growing pain research community at CCHMC and the closely adjacent University of Cincinnati.

Due to the incredible collaborative environment at CCHMC, the applicant would also have the opportunity to form close working relationships with several other divisions and centers including Allergy and Immunology, Gastroenterology, Developmental Biology, Neurology, Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology, Rheumatology, neurosurgery and the Pediatric Pain Research Center (PPRC) to name a few. Additional information on the more than 40 basic neuroscience labs at CCHMC and UC can be found on the Neuroscience Research Center site.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital is one of the premier pediatric institutions in the country, ranked #1 in a recent nation-wide survey.  The Children’s Hospital Research Foundation ranks second in NIH research funding among pediatric institutions and boasts a major recent expansion in research activity with the addition of a new, state-of-the-art research facility that complements existing structures.  Visit here for more information.
