The Medical School Berlin (MSB) is a private university for health and medicine in Berlin, Germany. The school is accredited by the German Federal Science Council (Wissenschaftsrat) and offers Bachelor- and Master degrees. We are seeking a native German-speaking postdoctoral scientist for up to 4 years, starting in April 2022 (or later).

 

The research project:

The project Physical activity and psychosocial characteristics of asymptomatic subjects and low back pain patients in real life will use real-life methods of behavioral sciences  (e.g. experience sampling, ambulatory assessment) in combination with methods of biomechanics and sports science to gain a comprehensive understanding of chronic low back pain. Eventually this should lead to novel preventive and therapeutic interventions. The project is lead by Prof. Dr. Lena Fleig (MSB, Health Psychology) und Prof. Dr. Christoph Stein (Charité Universitätsmedizin, Experimental Anaesthesiology). Prof. Dr. Thomas Schäfer (MSB, Quantiative Research Methods) is a consultant. We are part of a research consortium funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) (DFG-Forschungsgruppe FOR 5177) including groups of the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the Berlin Institute of Health, the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, the Technical University Berlin and the Zuse Institue Berlin.

 

Your tasks:

  • Design, implementation and management of the research project
  • Collection and analysis of psycho-social data using experience sampling and of physical activity data using accelerometers
  • Coordination and monitoring of the project
  • Data management and administration
  • Publication of results in scientific journals and project reports
  • Active participation in scientific meetings

Your profile:

  • PhD in the area of prevention research (e.g., health psychology) or medicine
  • Master degree in Psychology or related fields (e.g. Public Health, Sports Science)
  • Experience in health psychology/psychosomatic medicine
  • Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary prevention research (e.g. Health psychology, pain medicine, psychosomatic medicine, sports science, biomechanics)
  • Experience in quantitative analysis methods, motivation to develop your methodological expertise and your own research profile
  • Experience in computer programs (e.g. MS Office, SPSS, R, mplus)
  • Optional: experience in physical activity measurement/data analysis, experience sampling (e.g. By apps)
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Native German-speaking
  • Excellent skills in communication, organization, team work and independence
