New P:CU Examines Risks of Co-Prescribing Opioids and Benzodiazepines

Despite warnings in virtually all opioid product package inserts, reports on prescribing practices suggest that such warnings are too often ignored. Now, in response to findings that opioids and benzodiazeprines  are frequently prescribed in combination for patients with chronic pain, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control is recommending that providers should avoid this practice whenever possible. This issue of Pain: Clinical Updates explores the risks of co-prescribing these medications.
